James & Jewel P Lewis are a match made from heaven. They both met at an early age, and they both were raised, baptized & trained under the leadership of the late Elder Cornelius Purkette. James & Jewel also became king & queen of Garden of Prayer #3. They both sung in the children's choir, served on the usher board & participated in various things around the church as well. James & Jewel parents were best friends in the church so they saw each other quite often. However it was not until years later that they came to realize that they both had an attraction towards each other they never knew existed. Love at first sight wasn't the reason that brought them together it was the similar test & trials they went through separately that drew them close. See what the enemy meant for evil, God turned it around for the good. The enemy wanted to take them out while they were in their circumstances, their tests and their trials, but God said not so. As it states in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disater, to give you a future and a hope. Through their trials they realized that in order

to live this life of struggles, pains, disappointments, & rejection they both had to come into the full knowledge of who God was in their lives. Jewel P Lewis formerly Jewel P Downing is the daughter of Rev. Joseph C Downing & Marcella Downing. Jewel's father worked for the post office for many years until his retirement. Rev. Downing has received a Master of Divinity and he is now the Pastor and founder of Love Fellowship COGIC. Jewel's mother Marcella Downing was a good friend of James mother who also worked at CBN, the Busy Bee daycare center and was also in charge of the children choir at the garden. As kids it was taught that in order for you to make it to heaven you have to be saved. However as kids they did not fully comprehend that concept. Jewel’s true conversion did not come until 1997 around the exact same time as James. When God called Jewel she heard these words saying, "daughter come to me and believe in me & truly surrender to me personally". That’s when she made the decision at that point in her life that Jesus was a spirit and was real. On that day Jewel walked up to the altar & accepted God into her heart where she experienced a real praise and a real joy for the first time in her life like never before. In 1997 On James arrival in San Diego Ca. deep down on the inside he knew that he needed God and that church was where he needed to be. God sent deacons that really had the love of Christ on the inside of them and not just on the outside to minister unto him. These deacons talked to him, and educated him with compassion, with understanding and with concerns. These deacons did not judge him they made him feel welcome and thats when he totally surrendered to God.
